Aquaværk - Biomaterial Objects
Aquaværk is a material-driven design line emerging from Kathryn Larsen’s research into algae, seaweed, and seagrass. Each piece translates architectural experiments into accessible artefacts - connecting Radical Ruralism, vernacular knowledge, and contemporary biomaterial practice.
The work also functions as a testing ground for how architecture intersects with other design crafts. By collaborating directly with local artisans, printmakers, textile makers, and craftspeople, Aquaværk becomes a laboratory for hands-on material knowledge - exploring how techniques from traditional crafts can inform architectural applications, and vice versa.
These objects operate at the intimate scale of the body and the home, allowing materials to be handled, worn, and lived with. Each limited-batch piece is both a research output and a small-scale architectural study - a tactile way for the public to engage with ongoing biomaterial exploration.
